UVM ACL Research Study

UVM ACL Research Study

If you have recently suffered a first time injury to your anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) that requires surgery, you may qualify for this research study.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are 13-26 years old
  • Injured your ACL for the first time and have never suffered any injury to your other knee
  • Participating in organized sports/activity
  • Have had, or intend to have, surgery to repair your ACL
  • Intend to return to the sport/activity that you participated in before you were injured

WHAT IS THIS STUDY?

The purpose of this study is to identify the reasons why people who injure their ACL go on to suffer another knee injury so that we can learn how to prevent the second injury.

Eligible subjects who choose to participate in the study will come to the UVM Larner College of Medicine campus in Burlington, VT for testing within 1 year of being ready to return to sports.

You will undergo measurements of lower extremity strength and alignment, neuromuscular function, and fill out questionnaires.

On the same day, you will undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of your knees at the UVM Medical Center.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS OF THIS STUDY?

There are no costs associated with this study. You will receive travel reimbursement outside of Chittenden County, VT and $75.00 compensation for your time and inconvenience.
