Functional restoration involves the utilization of multi-dimensional exercises to simulate the bodies normal function for home and work tasks. At Dee PT we look at the individual needs of the patient and use creativity in developing a functional exercise program that will help facilitate quick recovery and return to normal activities.
FCE: Functional Capacity evaluations are used to assess an individuals capacity to perform work tasks and postures in accordance with the standards set up by the federal government and listed in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT). FCE’s utilize objective and standard measures to assess function while also measuring level of genuine effort. An FCE involves a Musculoskeletal screen assessing range of motion, strength, gait, posture, and a neurologic screen.
Work capacity tests include:
- endurance
- isometric grip and pinch
- material handling tasks floor to knuckle
- knuckle to shoulder
- shoulder to overhead
- carrying
Non-material handling positional tolerance assessment for:
- sitting
- standing
- walking
- climbing
- bending
- stooping
- reaching
- squatting
- crawling
- kneeling
- crouching
- twisting
- pushing
- pulling and fingering
- handling
This is summarized by the assessment to perform sedentary, light, medium and heavy work capacity as defined by the DOT.
