Loss of balance requires something called Vestibular Rehabilitation. Vestibluar refers to that part of the nervous system in the inner ear that controls our balance. Loss of balance is a complex diagnosis. Some times it is a problem in the inner ear or the eyes and or weakness in the muscles of the trunk and lower legs. As physical therapists we can evaluate the musculoskeletal system as well as the nervous system here in our clinic. This complete evaluation along with more sophisticated diagnostic testing helps us to understand just what’s causing someone’s loss of balance. Vestibular Rehabilitation can address each specific problem and usually is of great help.
